Relationship Series: Breaking Toxic Habits

We Value Relationships
We believe that people are made to be in righteous and loving relationships with other people.  This is why we forgive one another, encourage one another and show the love of God to one another.

Isaiah 55:8 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,     neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.

The Guilt Trip Toxic to Relationships

The Guilt Trip You are responsible.
If something goes wrong, it will be your fault. If you fail you are unworthy of love and you deserve to be punished. You MUST feel remorse for your actions.

Colossians 3:23 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Matthew 18:21-22 21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

I Corinthians 13:4-5 4 Love is patient, love is kind… it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Jeremiah 31:31-32 31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,     “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel     and with the people of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant     I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand     to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant,     though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 31:33 33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel     after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds     and write it on their hearts. I will be their God,     and they will be my people.

Jeremiah 31:34 34 No longer will they teach their neighbor,     or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me,     from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickedness     and will remember their sins no more.”

Ephesians 4:31-32 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

New Habit: Forgiveness
Recognizing accidents and unintended actions. Choosing to Love in spite of failings and shortcomings. Even when they do not show remorse.
