ABOUT THE CLASS Political science is a discipline that is divided into “fields”: American politics, international relations, comparative politics, public policy, and political philosophy We’ll spend more time on looking at what makes political science a science, but for now let’s just observe that most political science is empirical rather than normative. It typically seeks to focus on causal analysis (explanatory and predictive), And it typically relies on inference from a small set of cases to generalize.
