Wedding Clothes
2
Matthew 22:1-10 A King prepares a wedding banquet for his son. Some are invited but refuse to come. Those invited are more concerned with their jobs, others mistreat the messengers, even kill them. The King then invites all others, the good and the bad to come. As a result the wedding hall is filled with guests.

Matthew 22:11-14 Everyone is invited; the original guests and the good and bad that remain. Not everyone who is invited comes to the wedding banquet. (Only Matthews account has the following) One comes unprepared not wearing wedding clothes.

Gods invitation is free but it is also demanding.

Explanation Jesus is talking about the Religious leaders, Pharisees and Sadducees as those who are invited but refuse to come. What they are doing is not necessarily bad, but it is not the best they could choose. The invitation goes to everyone else because they choose not to attend.

The Take Away... There will be a wedding feast one day, Jesus is coming back for His bride. At that time it will be apparent that all have been invited to the wedding banquet, but we know from the story that there are many who will not come. In our story there is one who attends the wedding banquet, accepting the invitation, but refusing to dress the part. His outcome is not good. Nothing can secure our position at the wedding banquet but that which satisfies the King.

Scripture tells us... Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Romans 13:14 Therefore, as Gods chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12

There is nothing of our own that prepares us for what is to come, but God has provided everything that we might be prepared. God provides the clothing, but we must make sure to put it on.
9
Many are invited … few accept … but God has determined that only those who come through Christ will remain.
