Review something you have written to see if you can improve it by replacing general action verbs with specific ones.

When you compare and contrast things you tell how they are alike or different. Sometimes clue words point out comparisons and contrasts, but not always. You can compare and contrast different things you read about with one another, and also with what you already know.

An illustrator is someone who creates the art that appears in a book. Illustrators choose what to illustrate. An illustrator may choose to show a person or object to help the reader understand more about it.

An illustrator may choose a certain style of art to let the reader know more about the storys setting or mood.

You can use Greek and Latin roots to figure out the meanings of unfamiliar words. Look up these words from The Chii-lin Purse and tell how the meanings of the Latin root relates to the modern meanings of the words: direction, distribution.

A trade book is any book that is not a textbook, magazine, or reference book, such as a collection of short stories or a nonfiction book about Franklin D. Roosevelt. Trade books can be read for pleasure or to seek information.

Both textbooks and trade books may have the same parts: title and copyright page, table of contents, divisions such as chapters or units, graphic aids such as maps and photos, a glossary, and an index.

Previewing a textbook or trade book before reading will help the reader understand the material contained in it and its purpose.
