Divergent Views:
Orthodox; only men can make up a minyan, Torah is primary focus of Yeshiva
Reform; women can make up a minyan
Shekinhinah = the divine presence of God which is still with us today SIMILAR TO CHRSTIAN HOLY SPIRIT

Why is the Shekhinah important?
Shows Jews that God is still with them today
Shows why the Temple in Jerusalem is so special- shekhinah is there

4. Belief in the Messiah is important because;
Jews look forward to the restoration of the Temple
It encourages Jews to follow the Mitzvot
The Messiah will;
Rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem
Bring peace to the whole world

Messiah will not come until ALL Jews follow the mitzvot
Only God knows when the Messiah will come
There is no one “Messiah”
By all Jews working together and following God they can bring about the Messianic age

Why is covenant at Sinai important?
These rules provide a guide for living for the Jews
Jews believe that keeping these commandments will fulfil the covenant and God will protect them

6. 2.1.5: The covenant with Abraham
Covenant: a solemn agreement or promise between two parties
Why is the covenant with Abraham important?
It’s the reason why Jewish baby boys are circumcised (Brit Milah)
Abraham is the father of Judaism- Judaism would not exist without him
It’s the reason why Jews believe that Palestine is their “holy land”

Sanctity of Life: All life is sacred, special and is a gift from God

Jewish laws can be broken if it is to save a life.
Could use a telephone on Sabbath
Could break fasting rules on Yom Kippur

They are important because:
Encourage better relationships between people
Help us improve our relationship with God
Examples of Mitzvot;
Rest on the Sabbath
Do not eat milk with meat
A man shall not wear womens clothing

These are Gods exact words and should be taken very seriously
ALL should be followed
It’s a personal choice which to follow
