1 5th Lyceum Zinets Anastasiia
1. Good guess 5th Lyceum Zinets Anastasiia

2 Text of a problem is: Choose a common object, measure its mass and ask a group of people with same ages to guess it. Analyze the results of your experiment.

3 1.Milk bottle, 1,5kilos 2. Bottle with wet cotton, 0,75 kilos 3. Bottle with rice, 3 kilos

4 1 Group 2 Group 10 girls 10 boys 10 girls 10 boys 40 people

5 1 Group 2 Group Girl/boy 0,75 kg 1,5 kg 3 kg 1,55 kg B 1 2 4 1,5 3 0,5 2,5 0,7 0,8 0,9 G 0,6 0,4

6 Aim of our work is to analyze the results.
Objectives of the work are: To calculate the average value for each selection and make hypothesis To prove our hypothesis

7 average Average value is an index, that characterizes generic value of a feature, or a group of features in the analyzed set. It replaces lots of individual values of features, detecting common properties of all figures of the set. It helps to avoid random reasons and detect common patterns, caused by common reuses

8 average 1 group 2 group 0,75 kg 1,5 kg 3 kg 0,75kg 1 group 2 group
0,755 1,525 2,875 0,85 1,5 2,4 Boy 0,79 1,55 3 0,83 Girl 0,72 2,75 0,87 1,45

9 Using these facts we can make following hypothesis
1) Second group guesses the mass of the 1st object more accurate, than first group 2) First group guesses masses of 2nd and 3rd objects more accurate, than 2nd group 3) Boys guess mass of an object more accurate, than girls

10 the critical T-student criteria
Where M1 and M2 are average values of independent samples (in our work there are the results of 2 groups of interviewed students), N1 and N2 – the amount of results in each sample and q1 and q2 – standard deviation in samples

11 the critical T-test criteria
0,75 kg 1,5 kg 3 kg 1 and 2 group 0,141277 2,049864 0,036471 1 group boys/girls 0,474113 0,808641 0,512926 2 group 0,646529 0,505549 1 0, < 2,04 ⇒ no statistical significance 2, > 2,04 ⇒ a statistical significance 0,036471< 2,04 ⇒ no statistical significance 0, < 2,04 ⇒ no statistical significance 0, < 2,04 ⇒ no statistical significance 0, < 2,04 ⇒ no statistical significance 0, < 2,04 ⇒ no statistical significance 0, < 2,04 ⇒ no statistical significance 1 < 2,04 ⇒ no statistical significance 0,75 kg 1,5 kg 3 kg 1 group 2 group 0,141277 2,049864 0,036471 2 group 0,75 kg 1,5 kg 3 kg boys girls 0,474113 0,808641 0,512926 0,646529 0,505549 1

12 1) Second group guesses the mass of the 1st object more accurate, than first group ( True)
2) First group guesses masses of 2nd and 3rd objects more accurate, than 2nd group ( False) 3) Boys guess mass of an object more accurate, than girls ( False)

13 Similar works The Institute of Psychology conducts a yearly survey of freshman students. They are asked to evaluate the mass of the wooden sphere with their eyes open and closed.

14 conclusion 1) Accuracy of guessing the mass of common(1st) object depends on the method of guessing, Second group guesses the mass of the 1st object more accurate, than first group 2) Accuracy of guessing the mass of 2nd and 3rd objects doesn’t depend on the method of guessing 3) Accuracy of guessing the mass of an object doesn’t depend on gender of the student
