FIGURE 1 Effect of therapy with tolazoline on PaO2 and mean blood pressure (BP). A (left), Male infant weighing 3,240 gm (7 lb 2 oz) with massive meconium aspiration who survived. Note pronounced increase in PaO2 after administration of tolazoline. Tolazoline was given as bolus on two occasions (solid bars) and as continuous infusion starting at 24 hours (shaded area). B (right), Female infant weighing 1,800 gm (4 lb) with tracheoesophageal fistula, trisomy 18, complex congenital heart disease, and severe respiratory distress syndrome who died. Effect of therapy with tolazoline in increasing PaO2 is not nearly as dramatic as in Figure 1A. Note response of systolic blood pressure to administration of albumin. Tolazoline was given as bolus at 20 hours and at 42 hours (solid bars). CHEST , DOI: ( /chest b) Copyright © 1978 The American College of Chest Physicians Terms and Conditions
