2. OFFSIDE VIOLATIONS
An offside violation occurs when one or more players of the attacking team precedes the puck into the attacking zone
The position of the attacking players’ skates determine off-sides
The puck must completely cross the determining edge of the blue line for offside to occur

3. DETERMINING EDGE
Is the edge of the blue line furthest away from the puck
The width of the blue line is always considered part of the zone the puck is in
The official must be completely beyond the determining edge, but as close to the line as possible for the best view

the term "Golden Rectangle" no longer in the Manuals. Intermediate Manual refers to it as the "Key Linesman Area"
"Key Linesman Area" is 2-3 Feet on either side of the line.
From Positioning presentations, Neutral zone official (2-Man or Linesman) should be 6-18 Inches from the line.

4. IMMEDIATE OFFSIDE
When an attacking player carries the puck into the attacking zone with one or more teammates offside, the official blows the whistle immediately and points to the face-off location

5. IMMEDIATE OFFSIDE Signals and Mechanics
Non-whistle hand extended outward, fingers extended and joined
Palm faces toward end boards
Point to location where face-off is to be conducted

6. DELAYED OFFSIDE
For all 12 & Under Youth and Girls classifications and below:
There is no delayed offside
When an attacking player skates, passes or shoots the puck into the attacking zone with one or more teammates offside, the official shall stop play immediately and signal the offside infraction

7. DELAYED OFFSIDE
For all 14 & Under Youth/Girls and above, High School and Adult classifications
When an attacking player passes or shoots the puck into the attacking zone with one or more teammates offside, the official signals a delayed offside but may not need to immediately stop play

8. DELAYED OFFSIDE The delayed offside ends and play continues if…
The puck completely crosses the blue line and enters the neutral zone OR
All offside players are simultaneously clear of the attacking zone by making skate contact with the blue line
Play should be stopped immediately and offside signaled if contact between players becomes likely

9. DELAYED OFFSIDE Signal and Mechanics for Delayed Offside
Non-whistle arm is raised straight above the head
Flat palm, fingers extended and joined
Palm faces over the top of the helmet

10. INTENTIONAL OFFSIDE An Intentional Offside must be called when:
The offending teams makes no attempt at a legal play at the attacking blue line
The attacking team deliberately causes a stoppage during a delayed offside
The responsibility to complete a legal play at the blue line is 100% on the attacking team
The ensuing face-off takes place at an end zone face-off spot of the offending team

11. WASHOUTS
A signal that indicates the play was completed legally and no offside violation occurred.
Both hands start at the chest and arms extend straight out away from body
Arms remain parallel to the ice
Fingers extended and joined, palms facing down

12. FACE-OFF PROCEDURES
The official making the call blows the whistle and points to the face-off location
This official marks the face-off spot and conducts the face-off
Partner retrieves and hands-off the puck

13. SPECIAL SITUATIONS
There is no violation if the defending team shoots or carries the puck back into their defending zone – with attacking players in the zone
The official may give the washout signal to acknowledge having witnessed the play D

14. SPECIAL SITUATIONS
If the puck has cleared the attacking zone and is deflected back into the attacking zone while attacking players are still present, the play is offside
Any deflection, whether off a teammate, opponent, official or the rink-- that creates an offside situation must be treated as an offside
