3 BC Framework for Enhancing Student Learning
Effective communication of evidence, reported at least annually, by districts and the province.  The province and districts will report at least annually on overall results, as well as results for Aboriginal students, children in care, and students with special needs. Evidence should be meaningful and inform the school district’s and school’s plan and priorities for enhancing student learning.

4 Session Learning Targets
I can describe how... to use assessment data to enhance student success. to monitor groups of vulnerable learners at the school and district level in order to support the success of each learner. EdPlan Insight can help both school and district staff answer inquiry questions about student learning.

5 Provocation Who would you identify as the most vulnerable group of learners in your district? How do you know? Why does it matter?

6 Small Group Discussion
What assessments are you currently using district wide to monitor student achievement and to inform instruction? How is that data currently being disaggregated at the classroom, school, and district level? How do you track vulnerable groups of learners at the school and district level?  How do you ensure the data follows the students as they transition from grade to grade or school to school?

11 The Journey Begins: In the fall of 2013 our kindergarten teachers developed and embarked on a two new assessments processes: A Social Emotional Assessment and an Academic Assessment . The work of Clyde Hertzman and Kimberly Schonert- Reichel and others had shown that competencies in the areas of temperament/shyness and the ability to form relationships have considerable impact on future academic success for students. Adapting the work of other district’s Early Learning Assessments, we targeted Literacy and Numeracy skill development.

12

13 We believed that the results of this work would allow us as a District to focus on specific tiered early intervention strategies and professional development in order to set our youngest on a more optimistic trajectory.

14 Working with Janet Mort and Mike McKay and “Joyful Literacy”, we recognized that we needed to be even more targeted in understanding where our youngest learners are and WHAT WE WERE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT in a deeply respectful and developmentally appropriate way 2017 – “Literacy 2021” begins

15 INSIGHT allows us: To look at specific child’s progress
To look at cohort’s progress To tier instruction and interventions To communicate needs to support staff To target required professional development and support To target resource allocation that will make a difference for kids
