2 By the end of the class, students will be able to… 1. Listen to the dialogue about Three Kings Day and understand how and why people celebrate. 2. Answer the questions correctly after looking at the pictures.

4 What are the three men doing?

5 Listening 1. Listen to the dialogue between friends: Student 1 and 2 focus on A. Student 3 and 4 focus on B. 2. Write down what you hear as much as possible. 3. Reconstruct it as your own dialogue.

6 Script A: Hi, Lucy. How was your trip to Spain? B: It was great. Im so glad that I went in January. A: Why do you say that? B: Its because there are some interesting holidays and different types of festivals in January. A: Really? Like what? B: Well, there is the Three Kings Day, or El Dia de Reyes on January the 6 th. Its a lot like our Childrens Day. A: I didnt know they had childrens day in other countries.

7 Script B: Me, neither. The childrens parade was fun to watch because the people on the floats would throw presents and candies. A: Wow, Lucky you! By the way, why do they call it the Three kings Day? Why not just Childrens Day? B: In Spain, the children think that they get presents from the three kings who brought presents to Baby Jesus and not from Santa Claus. A: Wow! Thats interesting. I think its pretty interesting to see how two cultures celebrate the same holiday in different ways.

8 How do people celebrate Three Kings Day?

9 What are they wearing? Children wear crowns on their head.

10 What are the men doing? People wear crowns like the three kings and give presents to children.

11 What can you find in the shoes? People put straws inside the shoes.

12 What has the boy found in the shoes? Children finds candies and chocolate in the shoes instead of the straw.

13 What does the bread look like? People make Rosca bread which looks like a crown.

14 Three Kings day The three kings gave presents to the Baby Jesus. Children wear crowns on their heads. Children march and play drums. People wear crowns like three kings and give presents to children. Children act out the three kings story. People make bread and put crowns on top. To celebrate this day….

15 Sample Dialogue A: Can you tell me about the Three Kings Day? B: Sure. It is a holiday which celebrates the three kings who gave presents to Baby Jesus. A: Thats interesting. When is this holiday? B: Its on January 6 th. A: What do people do on that day? B: Well, they make rosca bread….
