1 Cake Q2 Groups exposed to risk Reduce exposure to chemicals 1

2 What are dangerous chemicals?
Chemicals that can pose a risk to health and environment Chemicals that are classified as hazardous by Norwegian law Chemicals that have an exposure limit or norm

3 What Are Routes of Entry?
Now that you realize that potential hazards are all around you, it is important to understand how hazardous chemicals enter the body so that you can better protect yourself from exposure. The routes of entry are Eyes, ingestion, Inhalation, and skin for example, dust, liquids and vapors may enter your eyes, be absorbed through the skin as well as easily inhaled. Although ingestion is not common, an example of this could be if you work in a dusty environment, that dust can get in your mouth and then is swallowed. Determine if attendees understand the difference between high risk and low risk before and after control measures have been identified and implemented Discuss exposure ensuring people understand the importance of being realistic Discuss hazard ensuring people understand the importance of being realistic Ensure attendees understand how risk is calculated [hazard x exposure]

4 How can you protect yourself? Main focus pr position
Follow the Personal Protection Equipment Matrix obs! New requirement for use of P3 dust mask when high pressure washing over 10 min.

5 How can you protect yourself? Main focus pr position
Floorhand - use a full-face respiratory mask with P3 filter while mixing chemicals in sack store - use AlphaTec® gloves when working with mud - hand hygiene – washing, barrier cream - use personal mask with P3 filter if entering shaker room while the shaker is running - use personal mask with P3 filter when highpressure cleaning areas dirty with mud - stop work when feeling sick due to exhaust

6 How can you protect yourself? Main focus pr position
ET, Electrician, operator tech, hydraulic mech - Use AlphaTec® gloves when working with parts that are contaminated with hydraulic oils. If this is not possible because of the nature of the work - as minimum, disposable nitrile gloves should be used. Two pairs of gloves, one on top of the other is recommended. Hyd mech, mech - The job category should use respiratory protection when working on hydraulic systems when there is a risk for inhalation, especially if the oil is heated. The type of filter that should be used for the respective oils is described in section 8 of the SDS.

7 How can you protect yourself? Main focus pr position
Roustabout - use AlphaTec® gloves or disposable nitrile gloves when working with equipment dirty with mud - use personal mask with P3 filter when highpressure cleaning areas dirty with mud Crane op./ assist. Crane op - use AlphaTec® gloves or disposable nitrile gloves when working with equipment dirty with mud or oil - stop work when feeling sick due to exhaust

8 How can you protect yourself? Main focus pr position
NOC - use disposable nitrile gloves when using corrosive chemicals or perfumed products - use oven as much as possible, keep door to the mess room shut, ventilation on max, defrost food completely before frying and avoid cleaning frying pan when it is hot – all to reduce cooking fumes

9 Main focus in general Keep PPE from chemical exposure
Keep mud temp below 55 degrees Keep used gloves out of clean area Avoid damage of bags Keep mud areas as clean as possible

10 HSE manual can also be used to understand more.
Main focus in general Section 8 of the SDS tells you all about correct PPE. HSE manual can also be used to understand more.

11 Use PPE today, avoid big challenges ahead
Use PPE today, avoid big challenges ahead! Short-time solutions may have long-term effect IP have worked with OBM since -94. Use of PPE was not in focus the first years. In 2012 his body had had enough – first reaction came after contact with OBM. He went home. Next offshore trip, he got this reaction just being onboard – without any contact with OBM. His offshore career ended with this.
