1 Program Analysis Group (LPAG)
NASA Living with a Star Program Analysis Group (LPAG) Co-Chairs: Anthea Coster Mark Linton Members: Joe Borovsky Richard Collins Seebany Datta-Barua Matina Gkioulidou Fan Guo Jorg-Micha Jahn Enrico Landi John Leibacher Sabrina Savage Brian Walsh LWS Program: Jeff Morrill, Program Scientist Janet Kozyra, Science Lead

2 Development of LWS Targeted Research and Technology (TR&T) Focused Science Topics
Procedure for development of focused science topics: Solicited community input for science topics (May 15 – July 2). Drafted science topics at first LPAG meeting (July). Solicit community comment on draft TR&T science topics (begins August 6). Finalize science topics at second LPAG meeting (October). LPAG website: See: SolarNews, SPA news, CEDAR, GEM, and SHINE newsletters.

3 Draft FSTs of Interest to SHINE People
1. The Variable Radiation Environment in the Dynamical Solar and Heliospheric System SEP and GCR transport 2. The Origin and Consequences of Suprathermal Particles Focusing on SEP variability 3. Current-Sheet Thinning and the Onset of Reconnection 4. Solar Photospheric Magnetic Fields Correcting artifact and calibration issues in measurements 5. Combining models and observations to study CME energetics in the inner corona Early CME development 6. Understanding Space Weather Effects and Developing Mitigation Strategies for Human Deep Space Flight Calculating biological risk 7. Data-Driven Systems Science May move to “Tools and Capabilities”

4 LWS Strategic Science Areas:
Suggested science topics should be organized around achieving the goals set out in the Strategic Science Areas (SSA’s) articulated in the LWS Ten Year Vision from 2015: Physics–Based Understanding to Enable Forecasting of SSA-0: Solar electromagnetic, energetic particle, and plasma outputs driving the solar system environment and inputs to Earth’s atmosphere SSA-1: Geomagnetic Variability SSA-2: Satellite Drag SSA-3: Solar Energetic Particles SSA-4: Total Electron Content (TEC) SSA-5: Ionospheric Scintillation SSA-6: Radiation Environment
