Vocational Calling Webster definition of vocation: “a summons or strong inclination to a particular state or course of action; especially : a divine call to the religious life” My personal definition of vocation: our work that God calls us to do on Earth by utilizing our gifts, strengths, skills, and weaknesses to glorify Him

Luther’s Calling Decided to become a monk instead of a lawyer even though it displeased his father He believed the church was teaching it wrong and that we actually receive salvation by faith and not by deeds Witnessed immorality throughout the church from indulgences and did something to change it by posting his 95 theses Eventually excommunicated from the church because he would not recant his beliefs Start of the Protestant Reformation

What it means for me Even though I do not see myself going into ministry, I still think we can all take away from what Luther did and apply it to my future. He stood up for what he believed in by listening to what God was telling him to do. He listened to God’s Word and started something bigger than he ever could have imagined. He never wanted to have conflict with the church but he did want a change for the better. At some points in our lives we are going to have to stand away from the majority if we believe we are doing the right thing.
