2 “When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am? 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:13-16

4 WHO WERE THE DISCIPLES - In there day, followers were to attach themselves to their master. - Were followers who followed the in the footsteps of a peripatetic Rabbi - They were also responsible for gathering provisions and would leave Jesus in order to collect the provisions needed. Example: Jesus entering Sychar in Samaria where He meets the woman at the well. Latter on in John 4: 27 they return, and Jesus informs them that He already ate food they were not aware of.
