Develop a core set of regional indicators Integrate fisheries statistics into national statistical systems Improved use of statistics in policy formation Increased capacity to collect, compile, process, interpret, analyse and disseminate fisheries statistics

5 How did P-SPAFS come about?
Rural households in Solomon Islands (HIES, 2012)

6 So what’s the plan?

7 Household participation in fisheries, FSM (HIES, 2013)
What’s happening now? Household participation in fisheries, FSM (HIES, 2013) Households who report not selling their fish and shellfish catch, FSM (HIES, 2013)

8 What are some examples? Data bank of non-standard units of measurement
CAPI collections Data integration Relationship between coastal ecosystem health, human consumption and human health PACFish and PATHWAYS (PacFISH2): Pacific food systems Per capita fish consumption Diet diversity, diversification and linkages to livelihoods, gender and youth Women empowerment Trade, economic growth and nutrition

9 What’s with regional harmonisation?
Household fisheries participation rate in Tokelau, Solomon Islands, FSM, Nauru and Palau (source: HIES)

10 How can fisheries be involved?
Inclusive of fisheries and aquaculture Needs your endorsement, promotion and involvement Avenues to design and use national collections to inform fisheries management and development Regionally standardised approaches to collection, analysis and reporting Link to national and regional policy and indicator frameworks Sustainably feed Pacific People Fish, tubers and fruit make up half of the value of food consumed in Yap Half of the households in FSM fish for subsistence purposes Use of livestock production in FSM
