2. 2018 IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications (InfoCom’18)
IEEE INFOCOM addresses key topics and issues related to computer communications, with emphasis on traffic management and protocols for both wired and wireless networks. The first INFOCOM conference took place in the United States in Las Vegas, Nevada, in Since then it was held in many locations around the world, including China, Japan, Israel, Italy, Spain, Brazil, as well as many other regions of the United States.
April 15 – 19, 2018 at Honolulu, HI
IEEE INFOCOM is the top-tier highly competitive conference in the field of wireless communication. The average acceptance rate is 20% (reference: The H-index is 187 (reference: Around 800 scholars attend the conference yearly. The top researchers in the field of wireless communication attend the conference regularly.

3. Deep Learning Approach for Cyberattack Detection
Summary of the research
With the exploding growth of internet of things (IoT) application in recent years, the resources are optimized to make objects, cities, and even the environments smart, so that the quality of life for the residents is further improved. However, IoT face the severe security problems like confidentiality, integrity, privacy, and availability. To prevent cyber-attacks cause irreversible damage, we propose a novel framework, called Deep Feature Embedding Learning (DFEL), to detect the internet intrusion in IoT environment. Through the experimental results, we validated that DFEL not only boosts classifiers’ accuracy to predict cyber-attack types but also significantly reduces the detection time compared of the state-of-the-art techniques. Furthermore, the paper demonstrates how the DFEL balance the detection accuracy and detection speed, which is a trade-off.

4. Deep Learning Approach for Cyberattack Detection
Summary of presentation experience
More than 20 scholars attended the presentation. It’s a great opportunity to expose our work to the worldwide experts and researchers, so that I can communicate with them and learn from them.
Lots of challenged questions are raised at the end of the presentation. By discussing with worldwide experts and researchers face-to-face, I obtained valuable feedbacks from them, and learned a lot from their experiences and suggestions.
I know how to improve my current work and come up the next related research topic after communicating with the scholars attended the presentation.

5. Benefits of Travel
I have an opportunity to listen the presentation from the keynote speaker, Jim Kurose, who is the world famous expert in the communication society. This talk presents 10 insights into these career dimensions, with an emphasis on research – choosing interesting and meaningful research problems, communicating (writing and speaking about your research), and identifying interesting areas for future research. Listening to the presentation, I have a better and deeper understanding to the communication world, which will help me to conduct further meaningful and deeply research in communication field.
Many novel and advanced techniques were delivered on the workshops, so that I can apply those state-of-the-art techniques into my researches and come up some new research ideas.
I made some new friends in the conference. Although I am young in the research community, making new friends will definitely help us to study together and have new research connections in this field.
I introduced KSU to the scholars attended the conference and try to recruit some students for our KSU graduate programs.
I represent a scholar of KSU to present our work in a top-tier conference, which raise KSU research profile and enhance the faculty's opportunities to establish collaborative ties to faculty at other institutions.
