2 Lessons from the Manger
Luke 2:12 – “And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

I. His Humanity – “You Will Find a Baby” ₋ Jesus came into the world just as we all do. ₋ Although He was fully God, the Son of God took on true humanity. ₋ We call it the incarnation – Jesus Christ is the God-man. John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

II. Helplessness – “Wrapped in Cloths” ₋ Babies were wrapped in strips of cloth to protect them ₋ It is no coincidence that He entered the world as he left it – bound and helpless. Isaiah 53:7 – “He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearer is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth.”

III. His Humility – “Lying in a Manger” ₋ Manger – stable or perhaps a feeding trough ₋ Stable was a circle of stones around a hollowed-out cave in the side of a hill. Philippians 2:7 – “But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.”

III. His Humility – “Lying in a Manger” ₋ Manger – stable or perhaps a feeding trough ₋ Stable was a circle of stones around a hollowed-out cave in the side of a hill. ₋ God did what we would never do, and in so doing, He opened the door to Heaven for all of us.
