1 Computing A Variable Mean

2 Computing A Variable Mean
For any relationship-specific analysis (e.g. correlation, regression) or even construct descriptive statistics, it is necessary to first fine the mean score of the relevant constructs. The procedure in SPSS is as follow:

3 Identify the items of the constructs. In this case let assume
JOB SATISFACTION (5 items) TRUST IN LEADER (7 items)

4 2. Go to Transform and select Compute variable

5 1. Define the new variable name 2. Select the function “MEAN”
3. Write the function expression as shown by double-clicking on every item of the construct 1. Define the new variable name 2. Select the function “MEAN” 4. Last step

6 Newly created variable

7 Crosstabs Crosstabs or Cross-tabulations is a technique used to assess two categorical variables’ relationship There must be 2 categorical variables and Two or more categories (groups) for every variable. The variables can be nominal, ordinal or scale BUT must have limited amount of groups

8 Crosstabs procedure Analyze  Descriptive Statistics  Crosstabs

9 Simple crosstabs

10 Simple crosstabs output

11 Simple crosstabs with Row, Column and Total Percentage

12 Simple crosstabs with Row, Column and Total Percentage – Output
Crosstabs with row percentage

13 Simple crosstabs with Row, Column and Total Percentage – Output
Crosstabs with column percentage

14 Simple crosstabs with Row, Column and Total Percentage – Output
Crosstabs with total percentage

15 Crosstabs with layer variables
Similar to the first two crosstabs But with one layered variable

16 Crosstabs with layer variable – output
