4 University of California (UC) Requirements
A-G requirements (same as your graduation requirements at Gertz) 3.0 GPA A-G GPA from 10 and 11th grade (including summer) SAT/ACT Extracurricular Activities Teacher please read the bullets on the slide 4

5 Please read: There are a total of 10 UC campuses but high school students can only apply to 9 of these in their senior year: UC Davis UC Berkeley UC Santa Cruz UC Merced UC Santa Barbara UCLA UC Riverside UC Irvine UC San Diego What about UC San Francisco? This campus is reserved for students who are graduates/professionals. 5

The most difficult to get into include: Berkeley Los Angeles San Diego The next group: Davis Santa Barbara Irvine Finally, the last group still requires you to have the minimum requirements but even that does not guarantee admission: Santa Cruz Merced Riverside Group 3: Competitive Santa Cruz Merced Riverside 6

16 What Do UC s want? They are looking for students who perform well academically and takes challenging courses For example AP courses, honors courses and community college classes They are also looking for students that are involved in their school community through clubs and organizations Student government, Gertz Nerds, YAP etc. Please read the information on the slides

17 How can you prepare to be eligible for the UC system?
Sign up for AP classes when the applications become available in the spring Sign up for a community college class once every semester Get involved in you community and be a leader!!! Please read the information on the slides

18 Activity: Your UC goals
University goal: Select ONE UC campus that you may be interested in applying in senior year: YOU CAN NOT PICK UCLA (lets explore the others) Visit this website to get more information on each campus: Academic goals: Lets look at our four year plan and make adjustments to your selection of classes (did you include AP courses?) Extracurricular goals: Lets make our list of activities to plan to get involved On campus? All-stars, YAP, etc Off campus? Boys and Girls club, employment etc. Please read: Student, now that we have learned about the UC system we will create goals to prepare for becoming eligible for this system. Instructions: Open a new google document on your Gertz gmail and label it: Name: My UC goals Complete goals for the 3 areas University goal: Select ONE UC campus that you may be interested in applying in senior year: YOU CAN NOT PICK UCLA (lets explore the others Academic goals: Refer to your 4 year academic plan and look to see if your four year plan looks like any of the transcripts that we saw for each campus. If it does not, make a list of the classes that you need to add to be able eligible for the UC campus you selected Extracurricular goals: List the activities you are currently involved at Gertz or outside of Gertz. If you do not have any then plan to become involved in some activities by listing them 18

Academic goals: For my current year: Sign up for a college class in the spring semester For 11th grade Sign up for AP US History, AP English Language and AP Spanish Language For 12 grade, s ign up for AP English Literature, AP Biology and AP Spanish Literature Extracurricular goals: On campus: girls soccer, cooking club, YAP (my goal is to become vice president of this club!) Please read This is an example of the UC goals of a 10th grade student. This student has not signed up for any honors or AP classes at this point. Please read his goals with your students and have them create something similar. 19
