Unidirectional retrograde flow in the distal radial artery remnant supplies the fistula. Antegrade flow, as demonstrated by the arrows in the classic autogenous radial-cephalic wrist fistula, reduces the risk of steal syndrome in comparison to the autogenous distal radial artery remnant to cephalic vein wrist fistula.
