History/Field In 1970, the Japanese conducted a study to compare lip prints A second study was done in 1991 The study of lip prints is called cheiloscopy

Lip prints Lips, like fingers, have special features that belong only to the individual making the print No two lip prints are exactly the same so a print can be used to identify an individual

Collecting lip prints Talcum powder is placed near the print
The powder is then brushed in both directions over the print with a soft brush After the print is photographed, clear tape can be used to “lift” the print

Common lip patterns There are 5 common lip patterns:
Short vertical lines Long vertical lines Rectangular lines that may crisscross Lines that form diamond patterns Branching lines
