Learning Outcomes: The learner is able to:
Assist a client to complete the correct application form to claim a DWP benefit Receive and handle charitable donations, cash and cheques Confirm arrangements Arrange the printing and publishing of service sheets, death announcements and obituary notices Receive and record floral tributes

Benefits The new Bereavement Support Payment was introduced 6th April 2017 Previously there was: Bereavement Allowance Bereavement Payment Widowed Parent’s Allowance There is also: Funeral Payment from the social fund which remains unchanged

Benefits - Bereavement Support Payment
The claimant could be eligible if their husband, wife or civil partner either Paid NI contributions for at least 25 weeks or died because of an accident at work or a disease caused by work When they died they must have been under state pension age

Benefits - Bereavement Support Payment
There is a larger first payment followed by up to 18 monthly payments. The amount depends on your circumstances: Children under 20 in full-time education First Payment £3,500 Monthly payment £350 No children under 20 in full time education First payment £2,500 Monthly payment £100

Funeral Payment Claim on Form SF200 or by phone
How will shortfall in funeral costs be paid? Any Insurance policies will be taken into account Maximum of £700 towards Funeral Director’s fees

Funeral Payment Claimant must be in receipt of other benefits
Circumstances of applicant NOT deceased (although the form includes questions about the estate of the deceased) Financial status of the deceased does not contribute to eligibility Other relatives may be asked to contribute

Apply company procedure for handling donations
Learning Outcome 2: Receive and handle charitable donations, cash and cheques Evidence required: Apply company procedure for handling donations Follow Company banking procedures Handle and count cash, record cash payments and receipts, record receipt of cheques Follow procedures for payments by credit/debit cards

Learning Outcome 3: Confirm arrangements
Evidence required: Prepare and send letters of confirmation to clients Prepare and send letters of confirmation to ministers/celebrants

Learning Outcome 4: Arrange the printing and publishing of service sheets, death announcements and obituary notices Evidence required: Use directories and other information sources to locate newspapers and periodicals Prepare copy for newspapers and publishers Prepare announcements and service sheets for clients

Learning Outcome 5: Receive and record floral tributes
Evidence required: Check name on card to identify those for the coffin Keep tributes separate from other families List tributes in a legible way as per your company procedure
