2 Instructions After you have created the foldable, take the notes from the slides that follow Write each definition on the empty space above the picture under each flap. Label each picture with the appropriate caption and information.

3 The breaking down of Earth’s surface; mechanical or chemical.
Weathering The breaking down of Earth’s surface; mechanical or chemical.

4 Weathering Chemical Mechanical
Acid Rain-chemicals mixed in the atmosphere fall to Earth’s surface as precipitation and over time dissolve away rock surfaces. Frost Wedging- Water seeps in cracks, freezes, expands and makes crack larger. Root Wedging- seeds get in to cracks and take root. The root grows forces the crack to get larger.

5 Erosion The wearing down of rock/soil by wind, water or glacier

6 Erosion Water erosion Wind erosion Glacial Erosion
As water flows across the surface of Earth, it wears away and picks up loose particles and deposits them elsewhere. Glacial Erosion As Glacial ice slides down the mountain side it scrapes away(plucking) pieces of the surface and deposits them at the base.

7 Soil Building Weathered material mixes with decaying plant and animal material to form soil.
