Presentation on theme: "Walk-in Take out notebook, folder, pencil box and agenda."— Presentation transcript:

1 Walk-in Take out notebook, folder, pencil box and agenda.
Answer the question at the back of your notebook: Look at the stuffed animal Rex. Make 3 qualitative observations about him, and 3 quantitative observations.

2 Science choice boards Learning objective: Learn about choices you have for practice and extending our topic of study!

3 Purpose Choice boards have options to provide Practice and review of what we have learned Extensions to topics for more information on what we are learning about Connections to real-life and applications of science

4 choices Some choices will be done as a whole group in class. (Yes, this is not really a choice, but the topic of it is related to what we are learning!) Some choices involve reading a short science book and answering some questions about what you read. Some future activities are on the computer. Some involve using your creativity and artistic skills. Sometimes, you may come up with a choice proposal and get approval for your idea!

5 When to work on choice board
Usually during Core Enrichment, after Silent Reading, everyone will work on their choices. Sometimes during the week, we will take a day to work on choices. If Mrs. Ryan is absent, you may be working on the choice board. If you are finished with our regular class work, there may be time to work on your choices.

6 Be flexible! Some choices may be done at the computer lab, by everyone. So this is not really a choice, but a requirement. Be flexible and look at it like one extra choice has been finished! Some choices may be activities we do as a whole group in class. Again, not truly a choice, but they will be counted!

7 Choice board example Must do GREEN #5 FIRST.
Must do #7 and at least one other blue choice (unless more are done whole group). Must do #3 and at least one other yellow choice (unless more are done whole group).

8 Keep track of your progress
Grading: BEST (9/9, A) GOOD (8/9, B) ADEQUATE (7/9, C)

9 View the choices and color code
Write your name, date and period # on your sheet. Read the choices. Look at the choice log on the back. Color code them as it tells you to at the top of the sheet. Listen for who has been “picked” to do the 2 required choices first. Then select what you will work on.

10 Instructions for the choices
The Choice Board stacker contains drawers with the instructions for each choice. Choices 3, 5 and 7 are in cubbies. When your group is called, LINE UP at the front of the room and take out your choice when it is your turn. When it’s time to clean up, neatly put your instructions, books and any other materials away back where they came from.
