5. Phillip Nolan American that threatened Spanish rule
At first he had permission to enter Texas
Said he was trying to capture wild horses
Spain grew suspicious when he began meeting with the United States Army
Spanish government feared Nolan was plotting to take Texas from Spain
The US had always been interested in acquiring Texas
Spanish had a hard time securing Texas border
Nolan was warned if he entered Texas again he would be arrested
Was killed by soldiers near Waco

Magee resigned from US Army and met Gutierrez
Gutierrez had been a follower of Hidalgo
Magee-Gutierrez organized a group of men to fight for Mexican independence
Arrived in Nacogdoches in 1812 and proclaimed Texas independent of Spain
Marched to La Bahia
Were attacked and Magee was killed, Gutierrez put in charge
Marched to San Antonio and fought the Battle of Medina
All were killed

Went to Nacogdoches to declare Mexico independent with Magee-Gutierrez
Set up forts along the Brazos and Trinity Rivers
Followed Magee-Gutierrez to La Bahia
Was captured and killed
