Heritage: Who Am I?

2 In Your Journal… What makes you who you are? What beliefs, traditions, and culture do you possess? How have the things you’ve learned shaped who you are today? Pg. 55 of textbook

3 Memoir: Definition: A form of autobiographical writing that shares personal experiences as well as observations of significant historical evens of people. Memoirs often are written in a highly literary style that may include the use of rhetorical techniques such as understatement, overstatement, repetition, or parallel structure.

If you could write your own memoir and have it sold in bookstores across the globe, what would you write about? Where would your story begin? What events in your life have defined who you are?

6 Ask person next to you about an event in their life that they would want published in their memoir. Be prepared to share. 

7 Read pg. 56-62 “The way to Rainy Mountain” by N. Scott Momaday
* Make sure to read the Background information box on pg. 56 for context
