4 Pol Pot 1928-1998 Real name: Saloth Sar
Gave himself the war name of Pol Pot in 1975 when he gained control of the Khmer Rouge (short for potential politic) Educated in France Born to a middle class family and never knew the agrarian lifestyle Believed in the Maoist idea that the farmers were the real working class (old people) All others were bourgeoisie (new people)

5 Pol Pot After the fall of the Khmer Rouge in 1979, Pol Pot found refuge in the North of Cambodia, Thailand and in China In the 1990s, the Khmer Rouge had a mass dissertion and also placed Pol Pot under house arrest He died in 1998 shortly after the Khmer Rouge declared they would turn him over to authorities.

Given an official warning from the gov. 2 warnings meant you were sent to “re-education” Forced to confess to "pre-revolutionary lifestyles and crimes” included some kind of free-market activity, or having had contact with a foreign source, such as a US missionary, or international relief or government agency, or contact with any foreigner or with the outside world at all

The government then told you that you would be forgiven and “wipe the slate clean” This meant you were sent to a prison to be tortured and/or be killed

9 The exhumation of the Killing Fields at Choeung Ek in 1980 by the People's Republic of Kampuchea was one of the first concrete proofs to the outside world that something terrible had happened in Democratic Kampuchea.

13 Fall of the Khmer Rouge In 1979, Vietnam Invaded ousting the Khmer Rouge Party dissolved in 1981 Pol Pot dies in 1998 under house arrest.
