Major Emphasis “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” Preferred charities are organizations which have teamed up with Key Club on both the District and International level to bring about positive changes in our world. In turn, we as Key Club members serve children (our Major Emphasis) by aiding the preferred charities committed to serving children of the future.

4 Trak 1: Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

5 CMN Hospitals (cont.) Mission: Raise funds and awareness for our local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. CMN strives to save young lives battling virtually every type of childhood illness and injury. helping to purchase proper equipment training doctors implementing outreach programs/ services providing health care for children whose parents cannot afford to pay

6 CMN Miracle Treat Day July 30th 2015
Dairy Queen is donating $1 or more for every Blizzard treat purchased Stop by your local Dairy Queen store to receive a sweet summer treat while helping children Support and publicize Key Club’s preferred charity – Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

7 National Pancake Day IHOP restaurants nationwide will serve free buttermilk pancakes Guests will be asked to consider donating money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Enjoy free pancakes while making a difference by donating to CMN hospitals.

8 CMN Dance Marathon Nationwide movement to raise funds for CMN
Interact with children’s hospital patients and families 12-40 hour long event Stay on their feet through dancing, games and entertainment Celebration of the total amount raised that year. “We dance for those who can’t.”

9 CMN Miracle Marathon September 1-27 2015 27 miles in 27 days
First 26 days are completed at your convenience On day 27, the final 1.2 miles will be completed as a group Also challenges you to raise $10 per day, or $272 total, for kids in your community.

11 About Prematurity Premature death is a very serious and common problem
Every day, 1 in 8 babies born in the U.S. arrives too soon Premature birth can happen to any pregnant woman, and no one knows why

12 March of Dimes Mission: To help moms have full-term pregnancies and to research problems that threaten the health of babies Spread awareness of prematurity Reduce the rate of premature births Raise funds for March of Dimes programs and research Collecting dimes in hopes that someday all children will be born free of birth defects

13 March for Babies Annual walk across the nation
Dates and Times vary by city Money raised goes towards community programs that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies Funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies

14 Teen 2 Teen Program Series of health education videos and lesson plans
Messages that can affect future pregnancies Teach teens how to make healthy decisions for their own benefit now and for the benefit of any children they may have in the future

World Prematurity Day: November 17 Decorate in Purple T-Shirt Ribbons Posters around school Awareness posts on Social Media

16 Trak 3: UNICEF

17 UNICEF Mission: UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. Provide children around the globe with: Health care and immunizations Clean water, nutrition, and food Security Education Emergency relief and more

18 Eliminate Project Kiwanis International and UNICEF have partnered up to eliminate MNT (maternal/neonatal tetanus) MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with newborns $1.80 provides a series of three vaccinations which protects a mother and her future babies!

19 Eliminate Week Host week in May—ideally, the week leading up to Mother’s Day. Service Ideas: Advocate to vaccinate Give-something-up day Carnation Sales Skate to Eliminate More Ideas found in Idea Book on website

20 Trick or Treat for UNICEF
Collecting donations for UNICEF with Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes Instead of asking for treats on Halloween, inform public about UNICEF and kindly ask for change Supplies automatically shipped to clubs that have participated within the last two years. Order free boxes on the Kiwanis-family store after September 6th

21 Universal Children’s Day
November 20 Promote the welfare of the children To do everything in our power to protect and promote their rights: to survive and thrive to learn and grow to make their voices heard to reach their full potential the benefits of development Children’s Festival
