1 One-Stage Repair of Ventricular Septal Defect and Severe Tracheomalacia by Aortopexy and Posterior Tracheal Wall Stabilization  Ching-Chia Wang, MD, Chun-Wei Lu, MD, Chun-An Chen, MD, En-Ting Wu, MD, Mei-Hwan Wu, MD, PhD, Shoei-Shen Wang, MD, PhD, Shu-Chien Huang, MD  The Annals of Thoracic Surgery  Volume 89, Issue 5, Pages (May 2010) DOI: /j.athoracsur Copyright © 2010 The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Terms and Conditions

2 Fig 1 (A) Preoperative bronchoscopy showed collapse of the trachea, with “kissing” of the anterior (cartilaginous) and posterior (membranous) walls. (B) The postoperative bronchoscopy showed a patent, stable trachea, with both bronchial branches visible. 3 Fig 2 (A) The preoperative computed tomography scan showed that the trachea was just beneath the ascending aorta and deviated rightward. (B) The operation is illustrated in coronal section. The aorta was pulled anteriorly to relieve anterior tracheal compression, and the posterior wall was fixed to the spine to eliminate bulging into the lumen.
