Lists are great, but sometimes, a table is better. Learn how to quickly convert a list in Word 2010 into a formatted table. If you have a list in Word, you can quickly convert that list to a table. Why? Because this helps you change the way the list appears or to apply functionality that’s more easily implemented and managed in a table, such as a shopping list, assignment table, or method for taking notes about specific topics. Now, let’s see how easy it is to convert a list.

From the Insert tab click the Table option in the Tables group Choose Convert Text To Table from the dropdown list.

Word 2010 assumes the table setup based on the list’s composition. Here Word wants to create two columns, based on the tab characters that separate the two columns. This is correct, so click OK. You can also select to Autofit to contents and this will size the columns to the content.

Most likely, the table won’t be perfect. You can quickly format the table by clicking the box in the upper right corner of the table to select the entire table. In this case, a column border is needed to separate the number column from presidents’ names.
