3 How to Benefit from Charter Schools in Rural WI
A charter school can provide options for students and teachers, functioning as an additional tool in serving all students; it can be a lab of innovation, and a place of learning new practices for everyone

4 How to Benefit from Charter Schools in Rural WI
How does it all work? Is a charter right for your community? How do you leverage this opportunity in your area? How can WRCCS help?

5 How does it all work?

6 How does it all work? Chartering simply means that there is a contract between an authorizer and a school’s governance board to create and operate a school that functions under a specific model, though it must meet traditional measures of success. Chartering allows a student to attend the charter school at no additional cost to the family. All WI School Districts are able to serve as charter school authorizers (virtual or traditional schools). In the case of a district-authorized charter school, the state funds go through the district to the charter. Independent charter school authorizers are able to serve as authorizers throughout the state now (not virtual schools). In the case of an independently authorized charter school, the state funds go directly to the charter. DPI is currently offering grant funds to support the start-up of charter schools over the next 5 years
