DiscoverEd includes article level records. Default setting is to what you can read because the library has bought it.

10 Databases for Reviewing the Literature
To find what has already been published in your field: > Physics & Astronomy Inspec Contents of more than 6.5k journals publishing in physics, computing, electrical engineering. Thesaurus of controlled terms/descriptors Web of Science (Science Citation Index , Proceedings…) Tracking a particularly useful article through the literature since it was published. Journal Impact Factors Full-text from publishers IEEE, AIP/APS, IoP, Association of Computing Machinery (ACM Digital Library). Pre-prints, full- text repositories ArXiv.org, NASA Astrophysics Data System, CERN Document Server.

11 Theses Find theses awarded in your field
> Theses eg ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global for those awarded worldwide. Includes online full-text. Edinburgh Research Archive (ERA) Electronic copies of UoEdinburgh awarded theses are deposited in ERA (a printed and bound copy goes to the University Archive). Any of your academic output can be posted on ERA and its staff can advise on copyright. Edinburgh Research Explorer The University’s research output (not full-text). Help pages –

12 Inter-Library Loan (I.L.L.) for what we don’t have
30 free per year [5 for undergraduates] then £5 per request received take e-payment requests to Physics Admin 2 renewals which are done via Helpdesk or I.L.L. staff. Request and monitoring form: “Intra-library loan” Get scans (or books/physical items) from other UoEdinburgh libraries, including Library Annexe, sent to you (or the Murray Library for collection). same form No cap on number of free requests. Publishing your research Open Access (OA) - Author charges’ repayment schemes. Advice (on copyright implications, next REF etc). Data - Advice on planning, storing, sharing or publishing the data your research generates. Open repository, Edinburgh DataShare. Training includes IS Digital Skills and Training classroom sessions and online course MANTRA Reference management software Eg EndNote – Direct import of records Group records and attach files to them. Cite while you write Export chosen references in BibTeX format.

14 Borrowing Books 60 books – PGRs (50 for PGTs, 30 UGs)
- including up to 3 Reserve books. Standard loan = 12 weeks. Short loan = 1 week Reserve books = up to 3 hours or overnight Self-issue and self-return But please ask library Helpdesk staff if you have questions etc.

16 Getting books on loan Sign-in [EASE authenticated]:
Request early returns for you to borrow next. Find as many results as there are to find (esp off-campus). See loan period defined for you. See previous as well as current loans. Save records. Save searches to run again.

17 Renewing Books Most books (excluding Reserve books) may be renewed for up to: 18 months in total, ie from first issue date, for (STANDARD) 12 week loans. 4 months for (SHORT) 1 week loans. You can’t renew if: you’ve reached the limit. the book’s been requested. your fines are too high. If you think it’s none of those, contact library staff and they’ll be able to help.

18 Borrowing Books Fines for overdue books:
20p per day for standard books / 40p per day for short loan books [maximum £10] One day’s grace. On day two of being overdue, a fine equals the cost of two days being overdue. N.B. £1 per day for overdue recalled books [maximum £10] 2p per minute for overdue reserve books [maximum £25] Paying online: DiscoverEd My Account area.
