Whole blood is harvested from the patient and separated into the red blood cell (RBC) fraction and the autologous platelet-rich plasma (aPRP) fraction. Red blood cells may be retransfused at any time during the procedure. The aPRP fraction is reinfused after cardiopulmonary bypass is completed and anticoagulation is reversed.
