Carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere acts as a “blanket” or glass, to reflect the sun’s rays back to earth and warm the earth to a good temperature for life.

Problem: Humans burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas release too much CO2 into the atmosphere, so more heat is reflected and trapped.
Concern: The earth may be warming up, which can cause ice caps to melt, sea levels to rise, and extreme weather to occur.
