Which option is right for me?

2 Three types of Early Admissions options
Early Decision Early Action Single-Choice or Restrictive Early Action All plans require that you apply by Nov. 1 or Nov Know your school’s deadline! All plans render a decision in December or early January

3 Early Decision You can apply to only one school ED
The decision is binding ED I and ED II Operate the same way, but ED II give you more time to decide You can apply regular decision to other schools but… If you are accepted to a school ED you must withdraw all other RD applications

4 Early Action You can apply to more than one Early Action school
If you are offered admission, you can wait until May 1 to accept or you can say yes right away Not binding - you can decline EA is more flexible if you are uncertain about your top choice school

5 Single-Choice or Restrictive Early Action
Apply early to one school The decision is not binding You may wait until spring to decide You may apply to other schools via Regular Decision process

6 How do I know which one is right for me?
Research! Have a TOP CHOICE school, no matter what Complete all standardized tests no later than the October test dates November exams will be too late

7 You may want to think twice if…
Need to compare admission and financial aid packages from several colleges May want to consider Early Action You may benefit from first semester grades on your transcript Regular decision schools will look at mid-year grades in their decision-making process

10 College Office Procedures
There’s still time to book a college appointment You can visit the College Office with questions at any time All students applying EA/ED must complete their college office files and a transcript release form NO LATER than September 29 to guarantee that we will submit your documents on time.

11 Possible Outcomes Accept – you’re in!
Reject – unfortunately, you can’t reapply through regular decision Defer – Colleges may defer you to the regular decision pool Sometimes they want to see semester grades Sometimes the EA pool is so competitive that they just want another look
