2 Figure 1 Screening for Novel Regulators of ESC Identity
(A) Schematic of the two genome-wide siRNA screens employed to identify novel genes that regulate ESC identity. (B) Schematic depicting the interaction of various transcription regulators identified by recent siRNA screens with the core transcription network in ESCs. The red stars denote factors identified by Hu et al. (2009), and the blue star is assigned to the complex identified by Ding et al. (2009). The PAF1C complex has been implicated for its role in transcription initiation and mRNA processing. The gray box shows the various interactions within the core transcriptional network involving Oct4, Sox2, and Nanog. While these screens identified different sets of factors, the regulatory modulators may crosstalk to orchestrate ESC identity. Cell Stem Cell 2009 4, DOI: ( /j.stem ) Copyright © 2009 Elsevier Inc.
