An overview of plantain diversity across forest zone of DR Congo
J. ADHEKA G (UNIKIS), B. DHED’A D (UNIKIS), R. SWENNEN (KU Leuven, IITA, Bioversity), D. KARAMURA (Bioversity- Uganda), G. BLOMME (Bioversity- Uganda), E. DE LANGHE (KU Leuven), 1st Intern. Confer. on Biodiversity in the Congo Basin Kisangani,6th -10th June 2014

Significance of plantain as a staple food crop
In sub-Saharan Africa: over 30 million people subsist on bananas as principal source of dietary carbohydrate. Plantain: key component of food security in DRC (1.57 million t y-1) 65% of the produced bananas are plantains. 1st Intern. Confer. on Biodiversity in the Congo Basin Kisangani,6th -10th June 2014
