Through federal funds and work of the CCC by 1940 acreage had expanded to 16,500 acres.

9. After 1941
WWII-War Effort
By 1942, with World War II and the draft in operation,
the need for work relief declined, and Congress voted
to close the program.
Camps switched to war effort projects or closed.
After September of 1942, all enrollees were discharged.
Some of the camps were reoccupied by the armed
services as training schools or military bases.
Despite its popular support, the CCC was not a permanent agency.
It depended on emergency and temporary Congressional legislation and funding to operate.
