Camps switched to war effort projects or closed. After September of 1942, all enrollees were discharged. Some of the camps were reoccupied by the armed services as training schools or military bases. Despite its popular support, the CCC was not a permanent agency. It depended on emergency and temporary Congressional legislation and funding to operate.
