5 What are do nows and exit tickets?
Do Now and Exit tickets are informal, timed, formative assessments (2-10 mins) that engage every scholar in thinking and writing about a skill, problem, or question aligned with learning objectives and targets. They require quick, relevant application of knowledge and concepts that can be both a review and an objective to be taught that day.  Informal, independent, daily formative assessments 2-10 minutes long All scholars complete In-the-moment data collection used to adjust instruction and inform planning Related to previous and current objectives A way to know which scholars need more review on previous objective and which scholars already know upcoming content

6 Do Nows vs Exit ticket Do Now Exit Ticket Given at the start of class
Determine what they recall from previous lesson. Determine what they may already know about current lesson  Typically 1-3 questions Review Question Diagnostic Question (This question may be used again on the Exit Ticket.) Given at the end of class Determine how many scholars mastered the objective taught that day Typically 1-3 questions...related to the learning from that day Ususally the diagnostic question or a similar is used for comparison

Gives the teacher measurable data on what scholars recall from the previous day's learning Gives the teacher measurable data on what scholars already know about the new day's learning...allowing for differentiation Gives the teacher an opportunity to compare data from the Do Now to the Exit Ticket to determine which scholars mastered the learning objectives from that day Assists the teacher in determining appropriate next steps for instructional moves Front load scholars on what they will be learning that day and what they remember from the previous day
