Task III: Listening to another interview! Differences in teenage life

12 Listening for specific information
Prediction Read the table carefully. Predict the parts of speech. e.g. We had old bikes, ______, but we had lots of _______. Pay attention to: n.: single / plural form v.: tense / voice n. n.

13 Non-only child Advantages Disadvantages
The main advantage was that we learned how to enjoy life without having a lot of money. We had old bikes, old clothes, but we had lots of freedom. But the advantages outweighed the disadvantages enormously. It was very difficult sometimes to have hand-me-down clothes. We didn’t go away on holiday like some other children.

14 Advantages Disadvantages When I was young, I had lots of cousins who played together with me and a best friend like a sister. Some people who come from large families might envy you because you had all of your parents’ attention. As a teenager, you’re unsure of how to deal with things and people. I think it has its negative side as well as its positive side. It was hard to find myself and my place in the world. As an adult, I’m the one who’s left totally responsible for my mother. I have to look after my mother if she has a problem and help her.

15 2. Language focus: advantages and disadvantages
Underline the expressions on your working sheets. The main advantage was that we learned how to enjoy life without having a lot of money. But the advantages outweighed the disadvantages. I think it has its negative side as well as its positive side. 利大于弊
