9 Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally
Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally. It includes the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking.

10 Someone with critical thinking skills is able to do the following :
Understand the logical connections between ideas Pitch-A-Palooza = Make text to self, text to text, text to world connections This can be about the characters, setting, morals, conflict, etc. Identify, construct and evaluate arguments Pitch-A-Palooza = What makes this book great? Why should others read it? Persuade them and argue why this book NEEDS to be read. You should be able to write/speak persuasively. Identify the relevance and importance of ideas Pitch-A-Palooza = How does your book relate to the 21st C? Why would people your age care about reading this novel? What themes/morals would tug at a person’s heart-strings? Reflect on the justification of one's own beliefs and values. Pitch-A-Palooza = Cannot be Googled or Wikipedia’ed. Your personal opinion about the novel!!!

11 Someone with critical thinking skills is able to do the following :
It is not a matter of accumulating information. A person with a good memory and who knows a lot of facts is not necessarily good at critical thinking. A critical thinker is able to deduce consequences from what he knows, and he knows how to make use of information to solve problems, and to seek relevant sources of information to inform himself.

12 Remember that critical thinking includes:
Making connections (text to self, text, world) to the material being read Having courage of convictions (not being afraid to take an unpopular stand) Confirming understanding by re-stating in your own words Questioning ideas and not accepting everything at face value Examining issues from varying perspectives or appreciating others viewpoints.
