3 TRANSFER STUDENTS BY THE NUMBERS*
15% of the undergraduate population at UW Seattle 80% transfer from WA Community Colleges 20% transfer from all other four-year and two-year institutions Largest Number of Transfers from the following institutions - Bellevue College - Seattle Central College - North Seattle College - Shoreline Community College 200 (12.5%) of incoming fall quarter transfer students are international students DID YOU KNOW? Fall has the highest number of transfer student admits but transfers are admitted every quarter * data on transfer students at UW Seattle

4 TRANSFER INITIATIVE OVERVIEW
Previously known as the Community College Engagement Initiative (CCEI) Sponsored by UW President and Provost, the CCEI was a year-long study designed to review and assess the community college transfer student experience at the UW. 2015 Assessment & Recommendations Development of Recommendations Integration & Communications MJ Give a nod to Paul Rucker’s work Acknowledge the lack of focus on transfers since the DTA went away and holistic admission was implemented Lots of work with community college partners and leadership across the UW Effort has gained momentum

5 TRANSFER RESOURCES TRANSFER PORTAL: transfer.uw.edu
New website that organizes transfer information already included on the University of Washington Website into a framework that is mirrors a transfer experience. One-stop-shop for information about how to successfully transfer students can prepare for, apply to, transition into, and be successful at the University of Washington UW TRANSFER ROADMAP: Easy to read document that outlines the process of transferring to UW for CC students, CC advisers, and UW staff

6 POLICY/UNIVERSITY CHANGES
Admissions timeline moved earlier: 50% of students admitted in April/May Even higher percentage coming in 2019 Housing increased priority level for transfer students. Transfer students who apply early will now be able to get on-campus housing. Now New Student Convocation (no longer Freshman Convocation)

7 TRANSFER OUTREACH Admissions offering info sessions via webinar for students who are not able to make it to campus for Transfer Thursday Office of Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment addition of transfer specific counselor Departments developing transfer engagement activities specifically for transfer students and reserving space in courses specifically for transfer students Community College Advising liaison system improved to include contacts from the Office of Admissions and Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment

8 IMPROVEMENTS FOR TRANSFERS
First Year Programs developed a Transfer Ambassador Program and reserves student jobs in Commuter & Transfer Commons for transfer students Providing training for UW Student Life units on how to engage and support transfer students Working with community college student life professionals to learn more about how to engage students in leadership opportunities early in their UW experience.

TSEC 2.0: For the and academic years, convened by Michaelann Jundt and Philip Ballinger, dedicated to implementing recommendations from TSEC 1.0 Working groups: Research Roadmap Department Toolkit Student Engagement
