1 Citing your sources

2 In – text citations: Wikipedia, another web source
Mascons were discovered in 1966 because of the effect they had on satellites orbiting the moon at low altitude (Wikipedia). According to Alex S. Konopliv, a planetary scientist at JPL who has mapped the location of lunar mascons, they have sufficient gravitational strength to make most low lunar orbits unstable (NASA 2006).

3 Including images/diagrams in your paper
Explain what the image/diagram shows Give credit for the image (you can make up a name for a web page) and put the full citation in the references page.

5 Example of an in – text citation based on a lecture
The degree of dimming depends on the relative sizes of the star and the planet. According to Marcy (2012) the depth of the transit is used to infer planet size because the brightness changes are equal to the ratio of the planet disk are to the star disk area, in other words a larger planet will block more light than a smaller one.

6 Example of in – text citation of a book with many authors
There are a variety of techniques which astronomers can use to detect exoplanets. Most of these involve measuring stellar changes produced by the gravitational influence of an orbiting planet. For example, the Astrometric method involves making careful measurements of a star’s changing position in response to the gravitational tug of a planet and the Doppler or Radial Velocity method involves measuring the changes in a star’s spectrum resulting from the gravitational interaction with a planet. Techniques such as these are bias towards finding more massive planets due to their more pronounced gravitational effects (Bennet et al. 2008).

7 Example of an in- text citation of a book with 2 authors
A flat frame is used to account for varying pixel sensitivity and correct for problems in the optical path (Berry & Burnell 2010).
