2 Introduction Satan’s mission is to wear us down and make us quit being a Christian. Never underestimate Satan; he is smart and has many, many “devices” : Eph. 6:11; 2 Cor. 2:11; 1 Pet. 5:8 Satan took multiple “shots” at Jesus and he will do the same to you and me: Matt. 4:1-11; Lk. 4:1-13 Satan will do his very best to wear us down! 2 Thess. 3:13 We must be keenly aware of his constant desire to make us “grow weary in well doing” : Gal. 6:9; Heb. 12:3

3 Let Us Not Grow Weary Galatians 6:9

4 Growing Weary in Well Doing
Weak in the faith Can’t please God without faith: Heb. 10:36, 39; 1 Pet. 1:5, 9; Heb. 11:6; 2 Cor. 5:7; Col. 3:17 Some grow weary in well doing because they allow their faith to grow weak: Lk. 18:8; 2 Cor. 13:5 There is no ‘magic bullet’ that leads to a strong faith: Read God’s Word: Rom. 10:17 Meditate on God’s Word: Psa. 1:1-3; 119:34 Pray about God’s Word: Psa. 119: ; Eph. 1:16-19; No shortcuts! Eph. 3:1-5; Jas. 1:5-8; Psa. 1:3 Growing Weary in Well Doing

5 Growing Weary in Well Doing
Failure of others Paul was confronted by the failure of others: 2 Tim. 1:15; 4:10, 16 People in the church today will fail you: 2 Tim. 4:4-5; Heb. 12:15; 3:13 The question is not “will men fail me?” But. “when will men fail men fail me?” When people let us down we have two choices: Grow weary and quit: 2 Tim. 4:7-8 Keep on keeping on: Heb. 13:5-6; Psa. 37:25 Growing Weary in Well Doing

6 Lack of visible results
? Paul knew a great deal about the lack of visible results: Acts 17:22-34; 18:4-11 Some told us to throw in the towel in Michigan. We must never forget: Our labor never in vain: 1 Cor.15:58 God gives the increase: 1 Cor. 3:6-7 God’s word never returns to Him void: Isa. 55:11 When tempted to grow weary in well doing due to a lack of visible results, we must never forget these things! Growing Weary in Well Doing

7 Growing Weary in Well Doing
Constant temptations Satan never lets up! 1 Pet. 5:8 In tempting Christ, Satan actually caused great blessings to flow to us: Heb. 4:15-16 Realize 4 things about temptation: 1 Cor. 10:13; Jas. 1:12-15 Common Limited Avoidable Beatable To avoid growing weary in well doing: Proactive: Phil. 2:12 Crucify: Gal. 5:24 Keep: Prov. 4:23; Mt. 15:19 Deny: Titus 2:11-12 Flee: 1 Cor. 6:18; Jas. 4:7-8 Growing Weary in Well Doing

8 Growing Weary in Well Doing
Severe trials Many sources: persecution, vicissitudes of life, health, finan-ces, relationships, old age, etc. Severe trials common to God’s servants: Noah: 2 Pet. 2:5; Gen. 6:5 John the Baptist: Mk. 6:14-29 Daniel’s friends: Dan. 3 Jesus: Matt. 27:26 Daniel: Dan. 6 Unnamed others: Heb. 11:35ff Jeremiah: Jer. 38:6 Tribulation unavoidable: Acts 14:22 Growing Weary in Well Doing

9 Growing Weary in Well Doing
Severe trials To avoid growing weary in well doing because of severe trials we must keep them in the proper perspective: Bolsters our hope: Jas. 1:2-4; Rom. 5:3-5 Glorify God: 1 Pet. 4:12-16 Purifies our faith: 1 Pet. 1:6-7 Leads to our salvation: 1 Pet. 1:9 Light affliction: 2 Cor. 4:17 Temporary: 2 Cor. 4:17 Eternal weight of glory: 2 Cor. 4:17 Grand company: Matt. 5:10-12 Growing Weary in Well Doing

10 Growing Weary in Well Doing
Church problems Church problems are inevitable: 1 Cor. 11:19 First century churches had problems: Jerusalem: Acts 5, 6 Galatia: Gal. 1:6-9; 5:4 Corinth: 1 Cor. 3, 5, etc. If you’ve been a Christian for any length of time you too have experienced such problems. Poses a serious challenge to our faith. Let us imitate Paul: 1 Cor. 1:10; Eph. 4:1-6; 2 Tim. 4:16; 4:7-8 Growing Weary in Well Doing

11 Growing Weary in Well Doing
Cost is too high Jesus said there would be a cost: Lk. 14:28-33 Jesus asks us to give up a lot: Lk. 9:23-24 But He offers a lot in return: Mk. 10:28-31 Many want to be a “friend of the world” : Jas. 4:4; 1 Tim. 2:9; Eph. 5:4; 1 Pet. 4:3; Eph. 5:15; Gal. 5:19-21 To do so one wastes their life and give themselves over to the bondage of sin: 1 Pet. 4:3; 2 Pet. 2:19-22 To overcome weariness we must take the eternal view: 2 Pet. 3:10-11 Growing Weary in Well Doing

12 Conclusion Jim Valvano: “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.”
36 “For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: 37 ‘For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. 38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.’ 39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.” Hebrews 10:36-39 The apostle Paul: “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” (Gal. 6:9)
