Sheep need shepherds. The Lord has given elders to local churches to supply this need. Sheep (members of local churches) need to recognize their need for shepherds and learn to love, appreciate and follow their shepherds.

The sheep are disciples of Jesus (John 10:2-4, )
Elders have been appointed as subordinate shepherds (1 Peter 5:1-4; Acts 20:28; 1 Tim. 3:1-6)
There is to be a plurality of elders over each flock (Acts 14:23; 15:4; 20:17; Titus 1:5; Philippians 1:1)

3. Sheep Need Shepherds
Without shepherds, the flock is directionless and vulnerable (Psalm 23:1-3)
Shepherds know the sheep (John 10:3-14)
Shepherds care for the sheep (1 Timothy 3:5; Titus 1:7; Acts 20:28)
Shepherds watch the sheep (Matthew 7:15; 9:36; Acts 20:29-31; 1 Samuel 17:34-35)

4. Sheep Need Shepherds
“And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake Be at peace among yourselves.” (1 Thessalonians 5: )
