Mark Twain is one of America’s most famous writers.He wrote many books including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
& The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

3. Twain was born in 1835 in the state of Missouri,near the Mississippi River.He came from a poor family. His father died when he was 12, so he had to leave school.

4. While he was a boy, he worked as a riverboat pilot
While he was a boy, he worked as a riverboat pilot . He steered boats up & down the long Mississippi River. It influenced him greatly.
Little Samuel spent his childhood in his native town. He had a lot of friends at school & when he became a writer he described them in his stories.

In fact , even the name Mark Twain comes from the Mississippi. His real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens.On the river Samuel Clemens often heard the boatmen shout Mark twain ! This meant the water was 12 feet deep .When Samuel began to write he chose for himself the name Mark Twain.
