4 “RICE” R = Rest I = ice Benefits 20 min. on - 20 min off - 20 min. on
Avoid movement or activities that cause pain I = ice 20 min. on - 20 min off - 20 min. on 72 hours 5-6 times per day Always place on gauze or cloth Benefits Reduces swelling Numbs nerves 1/2/2019

5 “RICE” E = Elevation Compression C = Higher than heart
Apply to injured area with elastic bandage Lessen internal bleeding To cool area quicker, soak elastic bandage in cool water before applying E = Elevation Higher than heart Slows blood flow 1/2/2019

6 First Aid for Injuries When to apply heat to an injury Why apply heat?
After 72 hours Why apply heat? heat will increase blood flow to increase healing 1/2/2019
