1 Mapping Tool Joanna Ma University of British Columbia Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Radio Science Lab II – OBJECTIVES Short-term: Create a more practical and accessible user interface. Provide a data structure that is separate from the Fatmapper classes. Generate a working calibration during data input and output. Long-term: - Develop a commercial code based on the Fatmapper application, while keeping the code expandable. I – BACKGROUND & MOTIVATION Fatmapper: Data Collection Platform Software package that enables user to mark a point on a map to record current strength from associated AP. Application Wireless systems are very commonly used in present society. Therefore, the need to accurately monitor the performance of access points has arose dramatically. Current Testing Software Present applications are often difficult and unrealistic to use or too expensive. III – METHODOLOGY FatMapper Classes 1. Fatmapper Doc – provides user interface (data input & output) 2. NetDevice – handles generic access to wireless NIC 3. NdisOid – provides interface with NDIS wireless NIC driver IV - ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES A software application that will provide user with information about the performance and status of an access point in a wireless environment. An example of an output is as follows: Collecting Data 1. load and calibrate map on FatMapper 2. mark locations of clients on map as APs 3. take measurements at known BSSID APs
