2. Sporting Class
Dogs in the Sporting Group were developed to work closely with people hunting birds. These dogs like to be around people and are active and alert.

3. Pointers
Pointers stand with nose and body rigidly still in front of their quarry.
Large dog originally bred as a gun dog
Have a short coat that requires little grooming
Active and require regular exercise
Intelligent and easy to train
Make good family pet because they are patient with children and good with other animals

4. Setters
The setters were originally trained to set, or crouch, in front of game. As bird shooting became popular, setters were trained to point.
First developed for hunting
Have always had a good nose for scent
Have a mischievous, fun-loving nature that sometimes get in the way of hunting

5. Retrievers
Retrievers find and return killed game. One of the most well known, top retrieving gundogs.

6. Spaniels
Land spaniels spring, or flush, game. They startle a bird from its cover into flight.
