1 HVDI: Student Engagement Taskforce

2 TASK FORCE GOAL To develop an ePortfolio and Digital Badging program to promote student engagement on campus as a means to increase graduation and retention rates and improve career readiness by focusing on the high impact practice of internships.

3 INTERNSHIPS & e-PORTFOLIOS
The Student Engagement Taskforce will support the planning and execution of working with the Division of Student Affairs’ Career Development Center and Student Life & Development. These departments will support students to participate in internships and co-curricular experiences with their colleges and/or student organizations to be documented using e-portfolios.

4 INTERNSHIPS & e-PORTFOLIOS
Students will be able to evaluate and produce artifacts (relevant documents and media files) that can be uploaded and displayed on student’s individual ePortfolios (electronic portfolios). Artifacts may include research, capstone projects, reflections, resume, and professional photos.

Connecting ePortfolios to student experiential learning will enhance students’ experiences, connection to campus and learning, and showcase their learning and competencies.

6 HVDI 2025 GOALS Dramatically improve the quality of learning and student experiences to increase retention rates, and improve student success. Support the campus with data and analysis of strategic initiatives. Develop and improve student engagement in linked curricular and co- curricular learning experiences and expand preparation for career and post- graduate opportunities. Support the achievement of curricular and co-curricular competencies connected to high impact practices through internships and e-portfolios.

7 AREAS IDENITIFIED TO EXAMINE FOR SUCCESS
Teamwork/Leadership - Build collaborative relationships with colleagues and customers representing diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions, lifestyles, and viewpoints. The individual is able to work within a team structure, and can negotiate and manage conflict. Professionalism/Ethics - Demonstrate personal accountability and effective work habits, e.g., punctuality, working productively with others, and time workload management, and understand the impact of non-verbal communication on professional work image. Career Management - Identify and articulate one's skills, strengths, knowledge, and experiences relevant to the position desired and career goals, and identify areas necessary for professional growth.

8 TECHNOLOGY BEACHBOARD BEACHSYNC

9 PILOT PROGRAM Identified 3 internship courses and instructors to pilot the ePortfolio and digital platform in the fall of 2018: CBA 493, NSCI 492, SRL 210L. The instructors have agreed to work together in redesigning their syllabus and add learning outcomes for the competencies/skills identified by the task force.

10 DRAFT OF DIGITAL BADGES

11 ASSESSMENTS Research best practices and develop a short and long term assessment plan. Students in the pilot cohort will be instructed in the e-portfolio development process and given the opportunity to earn badges through their curriculum are anticipated to participate in more engaging activities, perform at a higher level, graduate in a timely fashion, and achieve post-baccalaureate success above peers not given the guidance in creation of their e-portfolio.
